Males   Vs.   Females

lovable females.gif

How about that "sweet little female", is what a lot of breeders hear. Or no way "I don't want a little boy raising his leg all over". Well folks let's compare. Lots of times people say they want a female "a sweet girl". Well, while we don't realize it females go through estrogen levels with heat cycles. These cycles lead to mood swings. Along with this comes the mess of blood droppings on floors, couches, walls and other places from shaking and rubbing themselves. Outside we get lots of neighborhood company from male dogs just wanting to hang around. Better yet, this is a month long nightmare, so be ready to chase off "Romeo", cause he is looking for his "Juliet".

Females usually want to rule the roost, take charge, or be #1 in the pecking order. They are more prone to exercising their dominance by practicing in alpha behaviors like "humping" or "marking". Most fights usually break out between females. Female dogs are referred to as "bitches", for this simple reason with their behaviors in the dog world.

Males are on the other hand are more affectionate, exuberant, attentive and more demanding for attention. They seem to get very attached to people, less moody and more reliable. Little boys are more outgoing, taking quicker to children and other pets. Training is somewhat easier, cause males tend to be easily motivated by food and praise. Males tend to want more play time, but can be easily distracted with training, because they want to play so often. Boys are fun-loving till the day they die, females tend to get more reserved or dignified as they age. Females are usually less distracted during training, simply because they are eager to get it over with and go about doing other things. That "sweet litle girl" is more likely to play a dominance battle with YOU. She may be sweet and cuddly one day, the next reserved or even "GRUMPY"

Regardless which one you choose the best thing is to get your pet spayed or neutered, as early as you can, usually between 4-6 months of age. You will get better results, and have a happier and healthier pet in the long run. In some locations males usually cost somewhat less than females when getting them spayed or neutered.
